Population and Area

Population and area of Fongshan District:

This District accesses Daliao District in the east, Niaosong District in the north, Sanmin District and Lingya District in the weset, and Hsiaokang District in the south, occupying an area of about 26.759 square kilometers, with the population of 346,916 in 78 kilometers (according to the statistics until the end of March 2012). The Fongshan River passes through Fongshan from north to south, 8KM in length, coming upstream from Dashu Hsiang and integrated into the Chien Chen River downstream and Kaohsiung Harbor ultimately. In early days, the folks coming from Tangshan by ship went ashore around East Side Door alongside the Fongshan River. Therefore, Fongshan City was formed. With the booming water transport, the place is where Longshan Temple, Blacksmith Street and county government are located

The area surrounded by Tsao-Kung Canal (inner and outer trenches) developed upon City Lord Temple, and is the busiest area in Fongshan. There are a lot of historical sites and temples, e.g., national historical sites, Longshan Temple, municipal historical site including East Side Door, Chenglan, Suanfong and Pingcheng Emplacements and Fongyi Tutorial Academy, and temples including Longshan Temple, Jade Emperor Temple, Shuan-Tsung Ting Temple, Kaichang Shengwang Temple, Longchen Temple, Wenheng Temple and Jian-Nan Xian-Gong Temple, which are the public religious centers.

The Dadong Art Center provides the public with an area where they may enjoy the arts. After foundation of the Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts, both became the cultural exchange platforms in the Fongshan District, and formed a complete art & cultural network together with Kaohsiung Cultural Center, Pier-2 Art Center and Love River museums.
